Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a newer approach to treatment that involves a gentle manual technique to free the fascial system that can relieve pain, improve function, and restore well-being throughout the entire body.
How does it work?
A Myofascial Release trained therapist will do a physical assessment to see where imbalances are occurring and then work to treat the pain, but look for the underlying cause.
Does it hurt?
Myofascial Release will not hurt, it will not injure you. It does not force or stretch anyone beyond their means. Again, it is a gentle manual application requiring direct skin contact. It is through the skin contact that we assess the area of pain, treat the area of pain, but look for the underlying cause.

Cancer Rehabilation
There are over 16.9 million cancer survivors in the United States. Kansas has an estimated 151,950 cancer survivors, with survivorship increasing across the various cancer types and stages. With growing numbers of Kansas cancer survivors, a lot are left without rehabilitation that targets the deficits resulting from the course of cancer treatments.
In 2019, Mark DeJesus, MS, OTR/L, CLT started the coursework for Cancer Rehabilitation through the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORi) and, in 2022, became a Certified Oncology Rehabilitation Specialist. As an oncology rehabilitation specialist, we utilize a body systems approach about the impact of cancer and cancer treatment on the dermal, myofascial, skeletal, lymphatic, neural, gastrointestinal, urogenital, pulmonary, reproductive, and cardiovascular systems. PORi’s patient management algorithms and treatment protocols relate to the optimal resolution of functional impairment within these systems. A comprehensive understanding of the deeper physiological impact of all elements of cancer treatment on the body’s systems with the practical knowledge and understanding of how a specialized suite of clinical skills can mitigate this impact. This program incorporates education on the effects of chemotherapy and radiation on the body systems, exercise prescription before, during, and after chemotherapy, and pain management principles utilizing manual treatment, and education/treatment for the possible effects of lymphedema.
I have worked with many patients who have gone through cancer treatment but have not been able to provide real aftercare of prolonged symptoms. This coursework has given first-rate knowledge about chemotherapy medications and chemotoxicity, cancer-related fatigue, chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy, cancer exercise prescription, balance training, and sensory integration as well as incorporating the lymphedema management and myofascial release treatments that I already do into a comprehensive program that will benefit any cancer patient before, during, and after their regimen of treatment. Pelvic Health
Women’s and Men’s pelvic health can be a difficult subject for many and for different reasons.
Women’s health difficulties can stem from a myriad of health challenges including (but not limited to) childbirth, trauma, surgery, cancer, natural difficulties (PCOS and endometriosis), and the aging process.
Men’s health difficulties can stem from trauma, surgery, cancer, and the aging process. Unique to males are issues with the prostate. All of these difficulties can result in pain, bladder dysfunction, and sexual dysfunction.
I have had success in treating both women and men for different dysfunctions and improving/restoring function and reducing pain. Our approach utilizes Myofascial Release primarily from an internal and external perspective. The pelvis, pelvic floor, and abdominal region are all treated to be comprehensive and build towards a balanced pelvis. These treatments are delivered in a private, closed-door, one-on-one session that highlights privacy and discretion.

Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
I incorporate Reiki with all of the techniques and therapeutic approaches I utilize at Emporia Myofascial Care, but I am finally able to offer 30 min – 1 hour Reiki sessions.

Lymphedema
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein rich fluid and water in the interstitial space beneath the skin. Lymphedema affects 8-10 million people in the United States alone.
Lymphedema occurs primarily from aplasia, hypoplasia, fibrosis, or agenesis of lymph nodes as well as surgery, radiation, and lymph node removal.
Mark DeJesus, MS, OTR/L, CLT, CKTP, completed his Lymphedema Certification from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in October of 2007. During the course of his work, Mark discovered the use of kinesiotape and how this can greatly reduce Lymphedema/edema. In October of 2010, Mark completed the coursework to become a Certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner. In addition, Mark has completed the Advanced Wound Management Strategies for Lymphedema and Advanced MLD Management of Post-Plastic Surgery Procedures
The Complete Decongestive Therapy program at Emporia Myofascial Care helps relieve Lymphedema through Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Compression Bandaging, Decongestive Exercises, skin and nail care, kinesiotape, and compression garments.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage -
The purpose of manual lymphatic drainage is to influence the protein-rich fluid up the lymphatic pathways to the lymph nodes and to the heart and kidney for filtration Compression Bandaging
The purpose of compression bandaging is to enhance the effective filtration of the lymphatic fluid into the lymphatic pathways. Kinesiotape also can be effective in providing a pathway for the lymphatic fluid to move up the lymph vessels.
Compression garments upon reduction of the affected extremity or extremities, the patient is then fitted for compression garments which will be worn during the day to continue effective filtration of the lymphatic fluids back into the lymphatic pathways. Gentle exercise is strongly encouraged to also enhance effective filtration of the lymphatic fluid while the garments are worn.
Treatment is available for those that have edema/lymphedema as well as post-surgical treatment of breast cancer, breast implants, tummy tucks, BBLs, and Mommy Makeovers. Additionally, as a standalone treatment, whole body manual lymphatic drainage can be performed on any individual to help remove toxins from the body to improve overall health.
